Where to cool down in and around Klosterneuburg & Vienna<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Whether you want to swim in an outdoor or indoor pool, in the river Danube, in a lido or in natural waters, there are numerous opportunities to spend time in the water in Vienna and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this first part I will present you a collection of 8 tips where you can go swimming in and around of Klosterneuburg. Some of them also offer a swimming pool, some are entirely natural. This collection is by far not complete, so if you have any ideas and tips of your own please let me know!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STRANDBAD KLOSTERNEUBURG \/ LIDO<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the classic swimming pool facilities, there is also a natural Danube oxbow lake.
For sports enthusiasts, the lido offers 3 beach volleyball courts, basketball court, football pitch, street soccer pitch, slackline, baseline, 2 table tennis courts and floor chess. For a fee: 3 tennis courts, trampoline facility, boat hire, stand-up paddling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a children’s playground and a giant trampoline for younger bathers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a boat, parasol and sunbed hire service (daily from 09.00 to 19.00 when the pool is open).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HAPPYLAND \/ OUTDOOR & INDOOR POOL<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The large indoor area includes a 700 m\u00b2 wave pool designed as a lagoon, massage pool, water slide and a children’s zone, making the adventure pool an oasis of relaxation for the whole family. Meanwhile, keen swimmers can do their lengths in the sports pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the warmer months, our visitors also have access to a large outdoor pool, well-tended sunbathing lawns and a new sand and water playground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STROMBAD KRITZENDORF-KLOSTERNEUBURG<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Strombad Kritzendorf, today a popular local recreation area, can count itself among the first outdoor swimming pools in Austria! It is located 15 kilometers from Vienna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It had its heyday particularly in the interwar period! On individual weekends, up to 12,000 visitors from all social classes enjoyed the cool waters of the Danube, along the inviting Danube beach alongside the open-air pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the spacious facility is no longer operated as an open-air pool, but the sunbathing lawn on the banks of the Danube is still freely accessible. No entry fee!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baths are rarely overcrowded – the spacious sunbathing areas are a wonderful place to relax and you can enjoy a picnic in the shade of the trees. The Danube water is ice-cold and refreshing – but weaker swimmers and children should be careful, as the current of the Danube can easily carry you off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a bite to eat, you can visit the local inn, where live music is occasionally played at the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get there<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By public transport:<\/strong> take the S-Bahn “S 40” will take you to Kritzendorf station in around 45 minutes. From there, it’s just a 10-minute walk along an access road to the Danube.
by car: <\/strong>road B14 to Klosterneuburg, then “Hauptstrasse” until you reach Kritzendorf. Parking spaces available and free of charge
Klosterneuburg and the surrounding area is also a classic cyclist’s paradise and for sporty types, we recommend traveling there by bike. <\/strong>You don’t really need more than an hour for this either and it’s a leisurely ride along the Danube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GREIFENSTEIN \/ DANUBE OXBOW (“ALTARM”) <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The calm and completely natural waters not far from Klosterneuburg are perfect with children and\/or dogs(!!), but also very beautiful without them. There is a playground on the spacious lawn, the first few metres into the water are very shallow and the gravel bottom is neither sharp nor muddy. Next door you can hire sailing, pedal or electric boats and the first-class sausage salad at the buffet restaurant Alte Hafenschenke<\/a> is reminiscent of Austrian childhood days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to escape the ball game, you can swim to the other shore (or simply cross the nearby bridge). The overgrown part offers small bays for nature lovers and nude swimmers. Friedel Gastro at the end of the bay regularly organises small concerts and parties in summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By public transport<\/strong>: with the S40 to Greifenstein-Altenberg. Or with U4 to Heiligenstadt and then switch to the S40 there.
By car: road B14 to Klosterneuburg, continue on the “Hauptstrasse” to Greifenstein; parking spaces available<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWIMMING POND “SEESCHLACHT” IN LANGENZERSDORF<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This little insider tip is located right on the border of the 21st district in the north of Vienna. For those who need a break from the sun, the many trees provide shade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The natural pool offers a football and street soccer pitch, a swimming island, catering, beach volleyball and a parent-child area with a playground. Entry fee for the whole day is 6 EUR, from 1 pm only 3 EUR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get there<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We always travel by car<\/strong> with bag and baggage and park in the free car park: motorway A 22, exit “Strebersdorf”

For the more sporty among you: it’s also not far and easy to reach by bike<\/strong> from the Vienna city limits (Strebersdorf). Many visitors and families come by bike, and what’s particularly practical is that you can take your bikes into the premisses.

If you want to go there by public transport<\/strong>, please take into account that the walk from the tram stop to the swimming area takes ca. 20 minutes!
Take the S3 in the direction of Stockerau or S4 in the direction of Absdorf-Hippersdorf from Vienna Central Station. Get off at the stop Langenzersdorf<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TULLNER AUBAD \/ ALLUVIAL LAKE IN TULLN<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Tullner Aubad is a 50,000 m\u00b2 lake with surrounding lawns near the city of Tulln. It is an ideal destination in Lower Austria for families, amateur athletes and connoisseurs. In total, the public bath covers an area of \u200b\u200b30 hectares:<\/strong> 2\/3 of the shore of the lake consists of sunbathing lawns while 1\/3 is natural and overgrown with reeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get there<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tullner Aubad is located right next to the campsite on the Danube. There are parking spaces for cars, from Tulln<\/a> train station it is a 15-minute walk to the bath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WERFTBAD KORNEUBURG \/ SHIPYARD LIDO IN KORNEUBURG<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On the site of the former shipyard in Korneuburg (on the opposite river bank to Klosterneuburg), the ever-popular Werftbad has developed into a permanent fixture over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The natural pool is open to all swimming enthusiasts free of charge and is open daily in good weather (Monday – Thursday and Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00, Friday and Saturday from 10.00 to 20.00).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Spacious and all-day sunny area with its own swimming area (for experienced swimmers only!)

– Sunbeds and parasols to hire free of charge<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get there<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journey with the S3, S4 or train REX from Vienna Floridsdorf station to train station Korneuburg takes about 20 minutes.
The Werftbad is located directly on the Danube cycle path<\/strong> (Euro Velo 6), it’s a great place to take a break; if you are traveling by car, free parking is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL IN K\u00d6NIGSTETTEN \/ PARKBAD K\u00d6NIGSTETTEN<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A large multi-purpose pool with a triple slide and two children’s paddling pools with a pirate slide are just some of the highlights in the new park pool.

Large trees provide cooling shade even on hot days.
In addition, there are plenty of sunbathing areas, sunny zones and shady relaxation areas available to guests in the extensive park grounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get there<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travelling by S3, S4 or REX from Vienna Floridsdorf station takes approx. 20 minutes. Public bus lines (Postbus, Bahnbus, Regionalbus, Wieselbus, Rundlinien-Verkehr) will also take you to your destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
